Intense Dreams

I had really intense dreams last night.

The first dream that I remember I was sitting in a very DMV like room, just rows of pew like seats, and everybody was in white. I realize that I am waiting to get into heaven. I go to the appropriate window and am told that I am going to hell because I am gay.

The next dream that I remember is that I am in a car with my brother, sister, and my brother's girlfriend Lela. We are driving around Roanoke, but it was a roanoke morphed with NYC. We were talking about housing prices saying this house would go for 2 million, this for 5 million, etc. The suddenly we are driving in the country and we pass by a church. I say hey thats is the church of a kid we used to play chess with. We go in, and I see the kids dad sitting in one pew(Mr. Henderson) and in the row infront of him I see my Dad and Granddad. I sit in the row behind my dad and just start saying "Why did you leave me. I needed you. Why did you leave me? I am loosing the smell of you, I am loosing the sight of you." Then I tried to hug him but my arms went straight through him.

Then I woke up not knowing where I was and just cried for what seemed to be an hour. It has totally exhausted me.

Happy Coming Out Day, kids.

If you are coming out today or any day in the future, take a lesson from me, don't do it at the beginning of an 8 hour car ride. Really, not smart. There is a reason most people put escape provisions into their coming out plans :)

My thoughts and notes about the Alumnae Association Business Meeting

under cut due to lengthy-ness

So, I’m here at Macon, err Randolph, after a riding a greyhound from
9pm-9:00am with no sleep. I am going to do my best to state what’s
been going on, but if I am inaccurate I apologize. I am not going to
be unbiased though. I am still mad as hell about the co-ed decision
and have my views about what should happen now.

One of the first things we did this morning was to pass a motion to
define a voting member as anybody who has attended at least 1
semester at this college. While this did potentially exclude any
first semester students, it gave upper-class women a potential vote.

After that, an alumna proposed a resolution to hold immediate
elections for the Alumnae board. According to the by-laws at least
75% of the representatives are to be elected. Recently that has not
been followed, representatives have been nominated but alumnae have
not been able to vote. Several Alumnae representatives have been
concerned that those who do not support coed will not be able to
represent alumnae on the council. (I am going to transcribe the
resolution into the file section, so you all don’t have to wait for
the minutes to be released from the AA).

We then proceeded to struggle with Roberts Rules for parliamentary
procedure for awhile. We were finally able to vote whether or not
the resolution was called for, with the President of the AA saying
it was not. After a tied standing vote, we moved to paper ballots.
Majority ruled that we should go on to vote on the resolution. After
much heated, emotional debate we voted on the resolution. The
resolution lost. That took 3 and half hours so we broke for lunch.

The next part of the meeting was to discuss possible models of the
AA. I missed some of this, but I know the models will be presented
in the bulletin. Nothing more, to my knowledge, was voted on.
Alumnae then had chances to ask questions.

My major question was according to the current agreement with the
college all money goes to RC then RC makes the AA budget. I said
that on my honor I pledged that when RMWC went Coed I would never
give any money to the college. I am a woman of honor, but would like
to support the Alumnae association, how could I do that? They
replied that while they are not allowed to solicit donations from
Alumnae, that alumnae can still give them money.

Personally- I would like a totally independent alumnae association.
One that has no cash flow to RC. I would be willing to give money to
a RMWC alumnae association like that. I thought that we were going
to be given a chance to vote on what the AA should look like, I was
mistaken. I am not sure what this meeting accomplished.

They did mention that they have started taking nominations for the
2008 board. How this works, is that Alumnae nominate women for a
position, then the board picks one to go on a ballot. Sounds nice
and democratic doesn’t it? I personally think that I could be vice
president or representative to the board of trustees. In fact, I
would probably be the youngest alumnae to serve in such a position.
Right now (and I am aware that the Alumnae association and
leadership of the college reads this board, and often refers to the
list serv) I think our chance to create an independent alumnae
association is to get people on the board. If anybody would like to
nominate me, go right ahead. I would welcome the opportunity,
because right now we have 2 things-- we have the cases in court and
we have our alumnae association.

Oh- and the current president of the AA(Emily Gill Mills '79) said
that she expects there to be slams against her and her skills with
Roberts Rules. All I have to say to her as she reads this is
sweetheart don't take this so personally. We know this has been a
hard year, speaking for myself I respect you. When I went up to the
microphone, my knees where shaking. It’s hard to get in front of 170
of your sisters, half who totally support you and half who have
different opinions. It was fine to goof the motions, it was fine to
cry, and you are human.

Ok- I am exhausted, I still haven’t slept since Friday morning, and I
am still not sure where I am sleeping tonight. But hopefully this
gives everybody a peek into what happened at the business meeting
today. Feel free to ask for clarifications, or if you have questions.

Allison Holt '04

and the resolution mentioned above

Resolution

WHEREAS, The Board of Directors of the Alumnae Association Of Randolph- Macon Woman’s College, Incorporated has failed in its responsibility to conduct a proper election of the 2007 slate of Officers and Board members by failing to ensure that ballots were properly mailed to all members, as prescribed in the Bylaws (Article III, Sec 3 & Article VI, Sec. 2.1.b);

WHEREAS, When this error was called to the Board’s attention the Board failed to take action to correct the oversight, thereby creating a vacancy in seven Board positions;

WHEREAS, The Board has not maintained the required minimum 75% of the Board positions to be elected by the membership, as prescribed in paragraph 4 the Articles of Incorporation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Board of Directors of Alumnae Association of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Incorporated be dissolved in its entirety and that new elections be held at this Annual Meeting of Members being held this day, September 15, 2007, in Lynchburg, Virginia;

RESOLVED, That nominations from the floor be taken for all elected positions on the Board and that the elections be conducted by ballot with all positions being voted upon on a single ballot; in the event that a candidate for an office does not achieve a majority on the first ballot that the candidate receiving the lowest number of votes be dropped from the subsequent ballot(s) until a majority for that office is achieved;

RESOLVED, That a temporary chair be elected by a plurality vote after nominations from the floor for the position have been made and that this temporary chair shall preside until the election has been conducted and the results announced. It shall be the responsibility of this chair to appoint a Tellers Committee of seven (7) members who shall be responsible for the collection and tabulation of the ballots;

RESOLVED, That any member of the association is eligible for election to any office of Board position for purposes of this election with several exceptions including: district directors that must live in the district which they represent, the Chair of the ABWA who must be black, and elected officers and district directors who may not succeed themselves after their 3 year terms. Those members who are elected to a particular position on the Board or to a particular Office will fill the remainder of the term for which that particular Board position/Office is entitled; and

RESOLVED, That all appointed Board positions will be filled by the newly elected Board at its first Board meeting to be held subsequent to this Annual Meeting.

So this morning I left home for work and found a guy unconcious at the end of my block. I wondered how many people had passed by him and not cared. So I did the human thing to do and called 911. Just another reason to feel unsafe in my neighborhood.

Fortunes in the grinds

Tonight I went out for Turkish food with my friend L. and at the end of the dinner we were reading the fortunes in the grinds of our turkish coffee. The waitress came over and asked us if we knew how to read them, and then offered to read our fortunes.

I am a very anxious/nervous person who likes things to go her way (check.) Then she went on to say that I have a protector, somebody who cares for me, thinks about me, and wants to protect me. Which triggered an immediate heartfelt awwww, because I know who it is and I am very luck to have that person in my life. She then went to talk about a protected I have in another world (aww, my father). And then about the middle aged women who is constantly thinking and worried about me (aww, she knows about my neurotic mother.) She said I may have some trips coming up, 2 short ones and a longer one. I have been considering going to Roanoke or Louisville for memorial day weekend, and have also considered going out to San Fransisco while E. is out there house sitting. She also said that I have some wealth coming to me. Which is funny, because today I got an email back from Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and will be auditioning with them on May 15th.

Whenever I get my fortune or charts read, I say that I won't put any stock into it. But this one did actually touch me and left me feeling pretty good. And I am always hopeful about wealth, or atleast being able to move out of my basement apartment. I am also extremely lucky to have a protector in my life, and out of fear for sounding cheesy I don't think I let that person know how much I appreciate them and I should.

Most interesting seder only

It can be summed up in a few ways.

First some details- 9 people, most of them not jewish, seder part went to 11 and was hosted in my neighbors apartment, then moved to my apartment. The after party went until 3 am. The 6 people who were drinking went through about 9 litters of wine, and those not keeping kosher also went through 4 beers and I am missing a full bottle of bourbon. The after party involved (not in any particular order) glow sticks, foozeball, table tennis, spin the bottle(I kissed my first guy in 10 years, I am still not missing anything-the girls where hotter), random people making out on my floor, and me getting laid.

What sums it up is a funny text message relaying some dialogue between participants:
Chancey: I feel bad about pulling a drunken Allysa at Allison's last night.
Joe: Whatever. She pulled a drunken Alyssa with drunken Alyssa.
Chancey: Really?!

But the girl who spent the night slept with the gay guy. And didnt leave until 2 pm, we had lots of fun, though.

Still- best seder ever!

Life without talking sucks. It started out as a sore throat in the morning, to squeeky adolescent boy sounding in the evening, and after 6 beers and a smoky bar it went away. It hurts like a bitch and its hard to squeek out enough to get my dog to come inside when I let her out. I was supposed to spend the day at Left Forum (Socialist conference in town) today, but instead spent the day eating and drinking lots of liquid and eating soup.

I hope this goes away soon, I am way to much of a talker to not talk.
